The short version
Why does an existing connection matter?
If your building is already connected to Stealth, much of the work to bring fiber from the street into the building has already been done. Our team can focus on the connection from the building’s existing infrastructure to your space.
For buildings already connected to Stealth, we complete in-building installation within five business days of your order, or on a later date you prefer. We coordinate building access and the details of your handoff with you.
A building close to our network is not necessarily connected. If a new building connection is needed, a site survey determines the work and schedule.
01 / Existing infrastructure
What is already in place?
At a connected building, Stealth fiber already reaches the property. The work of extending the network from the street into that building has been completed. That can avoid the need for a new street-to-building construction project before your in-building installation.
Stealth owns and operates its network, builds with its own construction crews, and maintains its infrastructure with its own field teams. The path and the work needed inside still depend on the building and your space.
02 / Inside the building
What happens after the order?
Our team coordinates the visit and the route to your space. Depending on the building and the installation, that may involve access to shared telecommunications rooms, risers, and your suite, along with connecting or installing fiber to the agreed handoff location.
For a fuller explanation of pathways and permissions, see fiber construction and building access.
03 / Ready for your network
Agree on the handoff and test.
The handoff is where the service connects to your router, firewall, or other equipment. Confirm the location and interface, required optics, addressing, and who supplies and configures each component before the visit.
Ask which tests will be performed at the handoff and what results will be shared. Your IT team should also check the equipment and applications that will use the connection. Throughput results depend on the test setup and equipment as well as the service; agree on an acceptance plan instead of assuming a single test describes every application.
Our guides to the Internet handoff and speed testing can help your team prepare.
04 / New building connections
What if fiber is nearby but not in the building?
A nearby fiber route is a starting point, not confirmation of a usable connection to your building. A site survey establishes feasibility, the practical route, building access, construction requirements, and an achievable schedule.
The five-business-day in-building installation commitment applies to buildings already connected to Stealth. For a location needing a new connection, Stealth will coordinate the surveyed scope and timing with you. Special construction, additional charges, or changes to displayed prices or terms require your separate approval before work begins.
05 / Planning checklist
What can your team prepare?
- Confirm your address, suite, and desired handoff location.
- Identify building and IT contacts, and arrange access to the rooms and pathways needed.
- Agree on the interface, optics, addressing, equipment, and any power requirements.
- Ask what will be tested, where the service boundary is, and how acceptance is recorded.
- If replacing a connection, plan the cutover and rollback; keep the existing service until the new connection is tested and your business is ready.
